my name is Kiva Da Costa. Have lived on [Costanoan] Ohlone land practically my whole life. aside from Euclidean zoning, suburban sprawl, the housing crisis, the subsidized automobile pyramid scheme, underfunded public transit, gold rush / hype train / hippie / silicon valley culture, the military industrial complex, conservative + liberal policy and NIMBYism, I love it here. no really !! the people, the lizards, the poppies, the water, the pine and redwood, the mammals, birds, the spiders, the rocks, the hills and mountains, forests, old towns and cities, the history of the people here (however dark), the memories and nostalgia, the people, the people, the people. this place has much to blame for the world's current problems, but in it lies all the potential to undo and renew. I would be different somewhere else.
I've been working a lot recently and have more art projects floating around in my head than there is time to get them done -- or maybe there's not enough pillow room for me to relax enough to get in the zone to create, or maybe I don't have an outlet to express these ideas in an efficient way -- whatever it is surely is driving me crazy !! so now I'm here writing about all that and more :)
